Deja Vu Vu In The Blackbox...But Struck Down By Manflu
Deja Vu-Vu had organized a cabaret/disco on Saturday night as part of the celebrations for international Womens day in Belfast's Black Box. When I heard about it I was intent on going, by hook or by crook! I have been told of these nights on a number of occasions but because they only have about three nights a year, so far something has always 'come up' to thwart my efforts. They are apparently very good. A night organized by women for women and the music is as far as I know from the 70's / 80's. My favourite decades were fun music is concerned.
A little about International Women's day it's today! (Yeah!) -That was my croaky cheer of support. All I know about it is that it is a day put aside to celebrate the strengths, success and the resilience of women all around the world. This is it's 99th year in existence (or possibly of international recognition - it could be around much longer in different guises or National cloaks for many countries I couldn't possibly say for sure). As many people will attest to the fact that I do tend to live in my own wee bubble. It is not such a bad place to be from my perspective either, though I do occasionally burst out of it. International Women's Day doesn't seem to have the same sort of profile in the calendar as the likes of Mother's day but I am sure there are people who sent out cards to celebrate the day-well maybe.
Some people think that there are no such things as coincidences and others do but I can't help thinking that it seems like a bit of a coincidence that I was reading an article about 'useless facts' last Wednesday and one of the facts were that when you sneeze you kill a few thousand brain cells and by Friday I had started to sneeze! I put it down to becoming allergic to Molly who is in dire need of a haircut (rather that than the idea I was getting a bad cold). By Friday evening my nose felt twice its size, my head was throbbing and I think I had killed about a million brain cells, easily-not that you'd notice.....What was I saying again?
Saturday I felt fairly miserable, still sneezing! I cried off doing some of the stuff that I usually do on a Saturday- argued with myself all day about whether to go to this 'do' in the Black box or not; was in serious danger of becoming weepy and self pitying. How could a miserable cold affect you so drastically?
Saturday evening I was sitting trying to force a Budweiser into me watching Braveheart. My friends phoned. "Yes, I'll definately be going" Not really sure if I should - I was still sneezing and sneezing this much can be preetty tiresome. By the time Braveheart had killed the man who had murdered his wife I decided I was going. That was that! I'd feel super once I got there and got into the swing of things.
How foolish we are. I was just so afraid of missing something. I did miss the cabaret, which I think was probably very good considering the boisterous applause, I came in just as it was finishing. The Black Box was full to the gills and all around me where women having fun and enjoying themselves. The music was good, and I lightheadedly tried to dance at the bar with a couple of friends and sipped some iced water...sometimes shivering sometimes sweating. EEjit that I am I think I lasted about two hours then had to go home. It's awful when you feel so miserable you can't enjoy a good night out!
Sunday morning my ribs were aching, how can your ribs get sore with sneezing? That by 'hook or by crook' attitude may not have been such a good idea. Anyway I very uncharacteristically took to my bed and stayed there more or less all day. I had read on my Facebook a few days ago that one of my friends had posted up that she had manflu. I think she'd sent me the virus via the magic of the internet. I have definitely got manflu otherwise I wouldn't want to be moaning so much! Thanks Theresa ;)
My other friend phoned me Sunday night to tell me what a good night I ended up missing after all. There is another Deja Vu Vu night organised for July 23rd so I have plenty of time to get myself sorted!
